Rugby-playing Musicians or Music-playing Ruggers?

Today David Jones and Brian Christ of Media Rugby Football Club showed off their musical talents on NBC 10's magazine talk show 10! Both Temple University Rugby Alumni, Jones and Christ account for two of the six-piece band The Podunk Drifters. Jones is the beat-keeping backbone of the band as the drummer, and Christ plays bass (upright and bass guitar) and also contributes to vocals. Jones is one of the infamous brother triplet, which includes Owen and Gareth Jones who both played on under-19 national teams. Youngest brother, Gareth, is currently in Wales playing for the under-20 national team. Drifters' lead singer, Alexis Ramagnano, is married to Sebastian Ramagnano, a Media player who also played for Temple.

The Podunk Drifters are a cover band, covering everything from the Dixie Chicks to Led Zeppelin. Including Jones and Christ on drums and bass respectively, Alex Rausch is on lead guitar, Chrissy plays the viola and co-lead singer Hillary Rhydderch plays the keyboard. Ramagnano, along with sharing vocals with Rhydderch, plays the acoustic guitar.

The band plays locally in Philadelphia area nightspots such as Kildare's in King of Prussia, and The Draught Horse off of Temple University's campus. The 10! show was their television debut, and their live-to-tape performance came across almost as good as their impressive live-in-person sounds.

The Podunk Drifters' next show is this Friday, May 30 at The Lafayette General in Lafayette Hill, PA at 10 p.m. I have seen them at this venue, and I can attest to a great time. Excellent live music, cold beer and a bar full of rugby players are guaranteed.
