Forever Strong--a movie about a talented but troubled rugby player who must play against the team his father coaches at nationals--is expected to be released in U.S. theaters in September. Sean Faris plays the lead role, and his father is played by Neral McDonough. Gary Cole stars as Faris' coach in the film. The filmming took place in Salt Lake City, and to get in rugby shape for the movie, Faris ran 6 miles twice a day in the 100-degree Utah heat.
On top of an upcoming feature-film release, rugby may really go Hollywood when Matt Damon steps onto the pitch. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Matt Damon has signed onto playing Francois Pienaar in Human Factor, a film about the 1995 South Africa Rugby World Cup team. It is based on the true story of when Nelson Mandela lobbied for South Africa to hold the 1995 World Cup. Morgan Freeman is set to star as Mandela.
