Schuylkill River Hosts Successful Youth Rugby Camp in Philly

On August 4, 40 children from the ages of 4 to 12 came out to participate in a free youth rugby camp hosted by the Schuylkill River Exiles Rugby Football Club in conjunction with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation. The West Philadelphia event is planned to be the first in a series of camps hosted throughout the city.

The children from Cobb’s Creek and Laura Sims Skate House summer programs were introduced to basic running, passing and catching skills. The day culminated with a series of Micro-rugby games -- the preferred youth rugby format by USA rugby.

The camp staff included representatives from the Saint Joseph’s Prep HS Boys Rugby program, Archbishop Ryan HS Boys Rugby coaching staff, LaSalle University Men’s Head coach Bill Jalbert as well as several Drexel University men’s club and Schuylkill River Exile players.

If you would like to host an event or have the Exiles out for a Micro-rugby training session, please contact the Schuylkill River Exiles at phillyyouthrugby@gmail.com.
