In summer 2009, the USA Eagles will play Canada home and away, and the winner from the two matches will qualify directly for RWC 2011 as Americas 1. The loser of Canada-USA goes on to play the winner of Brazil, Chile, Uruguay over a home and away tie. The winner qualifies for RWC 2011 as Americas 2. The loser plays in Final Place play-off.

If the USA Eagles qualify in the Americas 1 seeding, they will be placed in a pool amongst some of the world's fiercest competitors.
