Our DI Club Top 20
Thursday Dec 11, 2008 in Amateur Competitions Division I Clubs
After a fall season for much of the nation's DI clubs, and with those in Texas, California and Utah either just getting started or still idle, we at ERugbyNews have chosen this time to submit a DI cub Top 20.
Some of the rankings are based on the fall's results. Others are based on how the club did last season, and whether we think they are better, or worse, than that. In the Top 20 are perhaps a couple of surprises - the Islanders of Hawaii have had an outstanding fall and dominated in the two big tournaments in that state. There's every reason to believe the standard in Five-Oh is high enough that the Islanders deserve a look.
Provo, which will enter its first DI competition this coming winter/spring season, also play their way in.
Notable absences include defending national runners up Glendale, who faltered somewhat in West league play, and could move up if they improve, Austin, who are likely better than they've shown lately, South-South leaders Fort Lauderdale, Raleigh, New Haven., Denver Highlanders, possibly one or two other Texas clubs, and any of the SoCal Super League teams. Those last, like the Boston Irish Wolfhounds (who we have at #21 if we went to #21) are question-marks because of their club's Super League responsibilities. Still we do rank Old Blue at #8, but we do so with big reservations.
